Beneficial Owner

Beneficial Owner - The ultimate person or entity who owns or controls an asset or account. In compliance terms, a beneficial owner is an individual who ultimately owns or controls (e.g. via ownership stakes or voting power) a legal entity or financial instrument. Identifying beneficial owners (often >25% ownership) is a key part of customer due diligence so that hidden owners cannot use third parties to launder funds.
