Black Swan Event - An extremely rare and unpredictable event that has a dramatic impact on markets. Black swan events come as a surprise and have huge consequences. In backtesting, most strategies may not account for such outlier events, so a strategy that looks profitable in historical tests could still be vulnerable to an unforeseeable “black swan” market crash or spike.
