CFTC (Commodity Futures Trading Commission)

The US federal agency that regulates the derivatives markets, including futures, options and certain swaps (like retail forex). Created by Congress in 1974, the CFTC’s mission is to ensure market integrity and prevent fraud in US derivatives trading. Forex brokers in the US must register as Futures Commission Merchants or Retail Foreign Exchange Dealers with the CFTC and follow its rules on capital, recordkeeping, disclosures, reporting, etc.
