Also known as the Order Book, it is a display of available buy and sell orders (volume) at different price levels for a given instrument. The DOM provides insight into market liquidity and order depth – how much can be bought or sold at each price. In an ECN environment, some trading platforms allow EAs to access DOM data. For high-frequency or advanced automated strategies (like order book imbalance trading or scalping large volumes), the depth of market can be important. A deep DOM (lots of orders at each level) generally means better liquidity and potentially less slippage for big orders.
