A composite diffusion index (0–100) based on monthly surveys of manufacturing (and services) purchasing managers. Readings >50 indicate expansion from the prior month, <50 contraction. PMI surveys (e.g. ISM in the US) signal economic trends. In forex, stronger-than-expected PMI often boosts the currency (via growth expectations), and robots may track PMI releases for fundamental filtering.
